Manchester United legend disappointed with Martial's barren performance

Manchester United suffered a 0-1 defeat to Newcastle United in this week's match at St James Park, Sunday (3/12/2023) early morning WIB. Roy Keane , who is a MU legend, commented on striker Anthony Martial's inconsistency  in scoring goals during his career.

It is known that Martial was given the opportunity to play in the attacking position as a replacement for Rasmus Hojlund, but his performance was less than satisfactory so he was finally replaced by the young Danish player in the second half.

“You have to focus on the players at the club at the moment. "We mentioned Martial, the first few touches he got last night, we forgive Martial because he scores goals every 14 years," he said as quoted by the DailyMail.

The former MU midfielder was not impressed with Martial's performance at home to Newcastle. With his frustration so great, Keane told Martial to play in a league that was at a lower level than the Premier League .

Keane assessed that when MU was under pressure from Newcastle, the players should be able to control the ball well to turn the situation around. However, Keane criticized Martial's ability for not being able to control the ball at all.

“He touches the ball and passes the ball very easily. "You should just go down to a lower league," he continued.

The Red Devils have suffered their sixth defeat this season in the Premier League. As a result, Erik Ten Hag's troops  have now slipped to seventh place in the Premier League standings with 24 points.

Having No Mentality

To date, Manchester United have not managed to win a single away game in the Premier League against any of the top nine teams in the division since Erik Ten Hag took over the team last summer.

Keane believes some players at the club cannot 'meet the demands' that playing for the English giants brings.

“They showed moments against smaller teams although this year they have struggled to beat smaller teams,” said Keane.

Must win the big match

Roy Keane stated that many players at Manchester United did not deserve to be in the squad, especially because they failed to put in adequate performances when facing other big clubs.

"You judge Manchester United based on what they do in big games, at Newcastle even after a trip to Europe, that is the responsibility of the MU players," he explained.

"If you can't meet the demands of playing against other top teams then you are not a suitable player to play at this club," he added.
