Manchester United beaten by Newcastle, Erik ten Hag will chat with Marcus Rashford
The performance of Manchester United striker , Marcus Rashford, was again in the spotlight in the match against Newcastle United in the Premier League, Sunday (3/12/2023). In this duel, the English striker again sluggish until the Red Devils finally surrendered with a score of 0-1.
Competing at St James' Park Stadium, Rashford again failed to pose a threat to the home defense. He was then withdrawn in the second half and replaced by Antony in the 61st minute.
Marcus Rashford's lack of contribution in this match angered MU legend, Paul Scholes. He accused Rahsford of having experienced a lot of decline and deserved to be replaced in the second half. Scholes even believes that his presence is actually more painful for MU.
“Marcus was brilliant last year and he's got ability, there's no doubt about that. But when you decide to go back to the way things were, and he comes out and behaves like that, I don't think it's good for the team," said Shcoles commenting on Rashford's game against Newcastle.
Rahsford is indeed having a bad season with MU . In the 2023/2024 Premier League competition, the 26 year old player has only scored 2 goals and 2 assists with the Red Devils.
Rashford's poor performance continued when MU visited Newcastle headquarters. In this duel, Rashford made many mistakes before finally being replaced by Antony in the second half.
Erik ten Hag will speak directly to Marcus Rahsford
MU manager, Erik ten Hag also realized that something was wrong with Rahsford. However, he was reluctant to convey this to the media and chose to speak directly to the player.
"I will talk to him and not to the media," said ten Hag in an interview with TNT Sport.
"We went through a difficult first half and in the second half we could say we were happy to be playing in this match. We made a good comeback at the end of the match. We will discuss this with the team tomorrow," added the former Ajax Amsterdam manager.
Visiting Newcastle United's headquarters, MU tried to provide tight resistance from the first half. It's just that the host, who is fully supported by the public, is able to create many opportunities.
MU is ready to rise for the next match
Of the four shots on goal, Newcastle was able to score a goal through Anthony Gordon in the 55th minute. Meanwhile, the Red Devils were recorded as only being able to release one shot on target throughout the match.
"We're going home, we'll talk about this and come back on Wednesday. As I said, I'll talk to the team. We had several chances. We thought we could score but it turned out it was offside. We should have scored," said ten Hag explained.
"This team is tough. We have seen that after playing Manchester City. We suffered a bad defeat and we remained united. We have a plan, and we will continue to move forward," explained ten Hag.
The defeat against Newcastle means MU now has to work hard to return to the top four. Currently, the Red Devils have been knocked out in seventh place with a collection of 24 points in 14 matches.
Newcastle itself is in 6th position with 26 points. Meanwhile, Arsenal is still in first place in the 2023/2024 Premier League standings, who have scored 33 points from 14 matches.
