Arsenal Tipped as Premier League Champions 2023/2024
Gary Lineker has named his prediction for the winner of the Premier League title in the 2023/2024 season, favoring Arsenal to become champions. The former Barcelona striker believes that Arsenal, under the guidance of Mikel Arteta, will clinch the title.
Arsenal was one of the surprise teams in the 2022/2023 season, consistently topping the league table for a considerable period. However, they couldn't secure the title, and towards the end of the season, their performance declined, allowing Manchester City to overtake them.
Following their failed title bid, Arsenal made significant signings in the summer transfer window. They have acquired the services of Kai Havertz, Jurrien Timber, and Declan Rice.
Lineker backs Arsenal to win the title
Lineker predicts that Arsenal will claim the Premier League title in the 2023/2024 season. He believes that last season's failure to clinch the title will provide valuable experience for Mikel Arteta's team.
"I'm backing Arsenal to win the title this season. Perhaps partly to avoid predictions, but I think they've had an impressive summer in the transfer market," Lineker told The Sun.
"Approaching and narrowly missing out on the title last season will benefit Mikel Arteta's team. Being in the title race has given them an experience they didn't have before."
Declan Rice's Potential Success
Arsenal broke the transfer record to bring in Declan Rice from West Ham. Lineker is highly confident that Rice can achieve success at the Emirates Stadium, despite the hefty price tag.
"Many players who move for big money struggle to justify their price tag, but I don't think that will happen with former West Ham captain Declan Rice," he continued.
"He is an exceptional player. A defensive midfielder, but so much more than that. Rice is a true leader, who will run all day and bring something with the ball at his feet.
"Of course, 105 million pounds is a huge fee, but he won't have the same pressure as forward players moving for big money, as they are constantly judged on their goal records. I'd like to see Rice add more goals to his game, but no one expects that from him."
Kai Havertz's Playing Position
Kai Havertz's performances at Chelsea were less convincing, as he was played in various positions. Lineker is curious about where Havertz will play after joining Arsenal.
"I'm also interested to see where Kai Havertz will play because he is an exceptional talent," he said.
"Despite scoring the winning goal for Chelsea in the 2021 Champions League final, I feel we haven't seen the best of the German player yet. For me, he looks at his best as a No. 10, but Arsenal already has an outstanding Martin Odegaard in that position.
"Havertz might start the season as a central striker due to Gabriel Jesus' injury, but he can also operate wide on the left or right or in a deeper role.
"He will certainly add depth, and I hope Arsenal will further strengthen their squad before the deadline."
