Argentina Opportunity to Title U-20 World Cup, Tango Junior Team Collapses
MasterWeb -- At a time when Argentina has a big chance to host the 2023 U-20 World Cup , the junior Albiceleste team is instead hit by unpleasant issues.
Following Indonesia's elimination as host for the U-20 World Cup , Argentina is at the forefront of the host candidates. FIFA President Gianni Infantino has acknowledged that Argentina has officially sent the government's request and guarantee.
If the Tango country becomes the host, then the Argentina U-20 national team will certainly appear at the 2023 U-20 World Cup.
Currently, the condition of the U-20 Argentina National Team is not conducive due to the absence of a coach. Javier Mascherano, who was previously registered as a coach, had already resigned.
The former Argentina national team player feels responsible because his team failed to excel and did not qualify for the 2023 U-20 World Cup through qualification.
The Argentine national team only finished fourth in the group stage of the 2022 U-20 South American Championship, so they failed to make it to the semifinals and dashed their hopes of appearing at the 2023 U-20 World Cup through the qualifying route.
Mascherano's strong desire to resign cannot be stopped by the President of the Argentine Football Association (AFA).
Argentina is currently struggling to keep Mascherano coaching the Albiceleste youth team. Senior Argentina national team coach Lionel Scaloni will also speak with Mascherano.
"You have to convince him, he doesn't want to continue working because he thinks it's his failure. We have to prepare the team for the Olympics," said Argentina U-20 manager Omar Souto as quoted by TycSports .
"If he wants to continue as a coach, then he must be in the AFA, because it is the best place where everything is possible to work. At the club there are many problems. At the AFA there are no problems," he continued.
